Posture, why is it so important anyway?
Good posture is essential for balance, bone and muscle strength, and good circulation.
When our posture is bad we put a lot of extra strain on our joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles as we force them to work in a way that they were not designed. It is a bit like driving your car with the hand brake on, and with the wheels way out of alignment. You are bound to wear out and break down eventually.
Our vital organs can also work a lot better when they are no longer compressed. When we slump over whilst sitting at the computer or driving the car, our lungs, liver, kidneys and digestive system don't simply disappear, they get compressed into a smaller and smaller space. The problem is when we are in this position for hours at a time; they still have to keep working, obviously no longer at an optimal rate
Over time the pressure on our bodies gets progressively worse. We don't notice this because the change is gradual.
